Quick Overview of the ActiFry

The Tefal Actifry Fryer was launched in the later part of 2007 just in time for christmas. It is part of the Nutritious & Delicious range from Tefal which aims to produce innovative products for people searching for healthier ways to cook without compromising on the taste and I have to say they have succeeded this time.

Chips Chips Chips, thats all I here from our children. So when I discovered that this new fryer can cook enough chips for a family of 4 in 35 to 40 mins and the end result, chips that only contain 3% fat.

Now I here you say, only 3% fat How, How, How.. Well those boffins at tefal must have been working day and night to think of this. Instead of filling the pan full of oil and then soaking your chips or chicken in the oil, this new fryer has a mechanical arm which moves the food around the pan, so the chips absorb enough oil without getting drenched.

Sorry for all of you thinking Chips, what is he on about, you may refer to them as french fries or hot potatoe chips but here in the UK we have Chips. Most famously known for our Fish & Chips!

So here is an extract from amazon about the actual fryer

Just one spoonful of oil you can make 1kg of homemade chips, which is enough to feed a family of four (Or 2/3 real hungry kids/adults!). That one spoonful is 100 times less than a traditional deep fat fryer, which not only means that your food is substantially more healthy, but it is also more economical and is also 100% safe, unlike some traditional methods of frying.

An Excellent Alternative - Review by J. Mckenzie "Chig"

I was very dubious about buying an Actifry after reading the mixed reviews, but after using it a few times I'm won over.

One of the main benefits of this machine is the ability to cook 1kg of chips at once, and unlike a traditional fryer where you have to continually check progress, with the Actifry you pop the chips in, add a spoon of oil, set the timer, and you can happily leave it doing its thing while you do yours.

You have to make sure fresh chips are totally dry before you put them in or they do come out soggy. We also use a full spoon of oil and find this gives much tastier results.

It gives off very little smell while cooking, and after a hour or so you would have no idea chips had been cooked in your kitchen ( unlike a deep fat fryer that leaves a horrid linger for ages )

I agree the timer could be better and should switch off when the cooking time is up.

But apart from this its a great buy!

i purchased the tefal fryer a week ago and already my husband thinks it is wonderful which surprised me because he is a fussy eater and loves his chips and roast potatoes

I purchased a tefal Actifry ($299.00 CAD) about a week ago. I have to say I'm really disappointed. I've made regular french fries, sweet potato fries, yam fries and carrot fries. Only the potatos produced an acceptable product. Acceptable being the key word. The fries came out looking lovely and crispy but about 2 minutes after coming out of the machine, they were no longer crispy, just brown pieces of potato. I wouldn't waste my money on one of these as you can get the same or superior results making oven fries.

One of our best friends purchased the T-fal ActiFry for myself and my husband for Christmas as a celebration gift for the 99 pounds I have lost to date. My husband is a great cook and my girlfiend knows this will just add to the endless recipes he likes to make. Today he made the Baby New Potatoes with Garlic, Shrimp and Tomatoes - WOW! I'm looking forward to more recipes!

We only got ours yesterday and already we love it. All we have done so far is the pineapple chicken form the cookbook and some sausages for the baby and we can't fault it at all. Looking forward to exploring more recipes.

Aloha!

Actifry has been sold in Europe for two years now with seriously

mixed results. Amazon.co.uk has had to refund customer's money

numerous times as the Actifry has a consistently dangerous tendency

to 'catch fire' amongst other issues, i.e.; broken paddles, broken lids,

Not dish-washer safe, teflon coating 'wearing off', timer too low to be heard

[Note: Acitfry Does not Switch Off Post Timer-Alert] Controversially the reviews

continue to be mixed. However and in consideration of the consumer price of Actifry, it

alarms most folks that the ongoing problems with this unit did not show up

in the preliminary safety tests. Pre-purchase of this fryer, my suggestion would be that

customers go to the BBC report & review the ongoing safety/failure issues concerning

Actifry. Link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/watchdog/2008/11/chip pans_up_in_smoke.html

I bought my Actifry 3 months ago, and it worked perfectly, but now on the same settings the food gets burnt. Earlier it was just fine. Suddenly it just happen. I am annoyed

C Parker 3 weeks ago

I agree with Prachi. My Actifry was good to start with but now either burns the chips or they disintegrate and stick to the paddle, very disappointing.I have been told it is the type of potato used, but I have tried all different sorts it makes no difference!
